Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital Chief Physician, Radiology Specialist Prof. Nail Bulakbaşı, MD., attended the annual ECR of European Society of Radiology in 2018. ECR 2018, as one of the most esteemed congresses regarding radiology all over the world, was held in Vienna as usual. Prof. Nail Bulakbaşı MD., who participated as the sole representative of TRNC in the congress has given a speech about “Advanced Imaging in Low-Grade Gliomas”.

In this congress which plays host to all the innovations in all the subspecialties, new and impressive researches in the field of radiology as well as act as a host for the young radiologists to learn about fundamental knowledge and practice based workshops, especially subjects such as hybrid imaging, artificial intelligence and interventional radiology innovations were demonstrated this year.

Prof. Nail Bulakbaşı, MD. in his presentation about Advanced Imaging in Low-Grade Gliomas has emphasised the diagnostic value of the available advanced imaging techniques in neuro-oncology, ,the added value and possible pitfalls of using quantitative MRI techniques in addition to conventional MRI and the importance of standardisation of advanced MR image acquisition in the clinical practice of neuro-oncology.

WHAT IS GLIAL TUMOUR?
Most common brain or spinal cord tumors are called Glial Tumours. They are called glial tumours because they arise from the glial cells which support the nerve cells in the central nervous system. These tumours make up an average of 46% of all primary brain tumours. According to the classifications of WHO in 2016, glial tumours are now being classified in respect of their molecular and genetic traits as well as their cell type, histological features, severity and localisations.
