Türkan Şahin, the head nurse of Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital: “The Midwives Are Essential Medical Advisors Of Families And Society”

Türkan Şahin, the head nurse of Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital stated that midwifery is one of the oldest and most sacred medical professions of human history and midwives are responsible for diagnosis of pregnancy and maternal observation and normal delivery and she also gave the following statement on the occasion of the international day of the midwife. In her statement, Şahin mentioned the following:
“ According to World Health Organization ( WHO ) and International Confederation of Midwives ( ICM ), a midwife ; is someone professional with a sense of responsibility who takes care of the women and the newborn during and after the birth and performs the delivery and works cooperatively with the women. In addition to all these, midwives perform and organize reproductive health programs, sexual health programs and prepare the parents for the birth. The midwives; are irreplaceable medical advisors of families and society. Midwifery; is a profound profession which uses medical information to combine the mercy, love and compassion of women with the sense of motherhood and thus, heals the woman, family and the society.

HEALTH SERVICE IS TEAMWORK
The Midwifery Week is celebrated all over the world in April 21-28 and midwives undertake important tasks in preventive health services and in therapeutic health services. Health service is teamwork. Midwives are an essential element of the health team with their disciplined, self-sacrificing, patient, compassionate attitudes they are contributing to a healthy society.
