General Surgeon at Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim gave a Seminar on Contemporary Approaches to Breast Cancer

World Health Organisation (WHO) announced October as the Breast Cancer Awareness Month so as to raise awareness on the disease and as part of the signifacent events organised relative to this, General Surgeon at the Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim gave a seminar on 20th October 2017 at the Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital titled as “Contemporary Approaches to Breast Cancer”. It was stated that the Head of Help Those with Cancer Association Raziye Kocaismail, association members and women living within the Lapta Municipality attended the seminar.

General Surgeon Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim provided the audience detailed information on the frequency of breast cancer incidents, reasons, risk factors, the structure of the breast cancer, breast cancer types, protection against this disease, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer.

Additionally, Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim, emphasised that considering the unchangeable risk factors of breast cancer such as being a woman, age, genetics, breast cancer history of the family, women needed to know their bodies well, learn to self-examine and get routine check-ups.

Modern Medicine increases the chance of early diagnosis
Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim emphasised the significance of screening with advanced medical devices and stressed that the Dr. Suat Günsel University Hospital was the only hospital with the lowest radiation devices within the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus. He added that the Hospital was equipped with latest technological devices which were used for the detection and screening of the disease. He reminded that to enable early diagnosis women of 20-30 ages needed to get screening every 3 years; whereas women over the age of 40 needed to get breast examination each year. In this regard, Prof. Dr. Besim stressed the significance of regular screening and added that latest technological devices were able to detect the tiniest breast cancer at early stages.

Subsequent to the completion of General Surgeon Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim’s seminar, Head of Help Those with Cancer Association Raziye Kocaismail expressed many thanks to Prof Dr. Hasan Besim; to Near East University; Head of Kyrenia Foundation Mutlu Soykurt; and Representative from the Lapta Municipality Meryem Sebep for their continuous support. Later, the attendants of the seminar were given the opportunity to direct questions to Prof. Dr. Hasan Besim. Finally, the event ended after Head of Kyrenia Foundation Mutlu Soykurt made a short speech regarding the day and presented flowers to the spokespersons.
