Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital Clinical Dietician Budak Ulugün stressed that obesity is a preventable health problem caused by excessive accumulation of fat in the body due to high energy intake.

Clinical Dietician Budak Ulugün said that ‘the desire to taste and enjoy the food is one of the most important features of the human being, but for a healthy life, it is very important to consume sufficient and a balanced nutrition in a way that does not exceed our daily energy needs’ and listed below what should be done to avoid obesity:

  • Review your eating habits and aim for a healthy and balanced nutrition.
  • Avoid prolonged starvation. Your meals are very important, avoid skipping meals.
  • Eat slowly and chew your food thoroughly.
  • Pay attention to the amount of water you consume during the day.
  • Pay attention to your daily salt intake.
  • Avoid fast food and processed foods.
  • Choose whole grain, wheat, rye and oat based breads.
  • Walking at least 3 times a week for 45 minutes is good for your health.
  • Cook your food by grilling, boiling and baking, avoid frying.
  • For meat dishes, do not use additional oil.
  • For meatless vegetable dishes, 4 tablespoons of oil is sufficient for 1 kg of vegetables.
  • Eat plenty of fruits and vegetables.
  • Avoid high-fat foods, chips, nuts, foods with high-fat sauce as much as possible.
  • Instead of alcohol, fizzy drinks and processed juices, choose fresh juices, ayran and soda.
  • If you have to consume food outside, select grill based meals with plenty of vegetables.
