Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Dental Hospital in cooperation with Kyrenia Municipality, performed a 3-day oral and dental screening event for children up to 15 years of age between September 11-13. Events took place at Kyrenia Center, Ozanköy and Zeytinlik region with the slogan “Tooth decay is not your destiny “. Approximately 200 children attended the screening event during which they were also told how to brush their teeth. Following the screening, University of Kyrenia Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Serap Çetiner MD.DT. and Dt. Ferdiye Küçük distributed educational and informative booklets on family health.
Prof. Serap Çetiner MD. DT. said that children should be trained in oral and dental health in order to create a society without tooth decay. Serap Çetiner stated that preventive measures include periodic controls and healthy diet. Çetiner stressed that according to World Health Organization dental caries are among the biggest threats to human health and added that universities, hospitals, non-governmental organizations, as well as local authorities should cooperate to solve this problem. Çetiner said that municipality’s contribution also made them happy and stated that they want to continue their parent education programs.
Kyrenia Mayor Nidai Güngördü emphasized the importance of education and awareness in order to raise healthy individuals and emphasized that local government should support and contribute to the activities to be held regarding health. Nidai Güngördü, underlined the importance of cooperation between institutions, and thanked University of Kyrenia Faculty of Dentistry Dean Prof. Serap Çetiner MD.DT. and Dt. Ferdiye Küçük from Dr. Suat Günsel University Dental Hospital for their contribution.
