Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital Emergency Medicine Specialist Dr. Uğur Özkula: “EMT’s and Paramedics are Important Parts of The Healthcare Family”

Expressing that Emergency Medical Services is a healthcare service that has sacrifice and ambition under its foundation Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital Emergency Medicine Specialist Uğur Özkula has given a statement for the occasion of 22nd of March Emergency Medical Technicians Day. Noting that the aim of the Emergency Medical Technicians (EMT) Day is to establish an environment of unity, cooperation and solidarity among healthcare workers and to enlighten and raise awareness of the public with accurate information about emergency healthcare services as well as first-aid, Dr. Uğur Özkula said that EMT’s and Paramedics are important parts of the healthcare family who help people hold on to their lives thanks to the interventions they perform.

He stated that EMT’s and paramedics worked with the patients in cases such as pre-hospital emergency care, getting sick, accidents, during transfer with an ongoing service in the ambulance until they were transferred to a place with medical facilities performing vital procedures like diagnosing the patient, evaluating their conditions and providing emergency healthcare when necessary.

EMERGENCY MEDICAL TECHNICIANS ARE THE FIRST TO CONTACT PATIENTS
Emphasising that the first-aid performed on the patient before reaching the health centre was life-saving in most cases, Dr. Özkula continued his statement with:

“‘Health comes first.’ This expression reflects the mutual desire for all of us which we do not shy away from uttering many times and cordially. Nothing remains important when we start worrying about our or our relatives’ health and usually we are forced to face with these medical problems when we least expect them. Moments which require fast interventions, fast diagnosis and treatment are among the bad memories which we do not wish to remember.

The people we need most in these moments are the healthcare workers; mainly the Emergency Medical Technicians who have the first contact with patients: Our veteran friends on the journey of emergency medicine which is difficult as well as fun; they are the ones who are working bravely and with great sacrifice at any region of the country, in any situation where healthcare is needed, in ambulances, healthcare centres, hospitals, search and rescues, natural disasters and regions of conflict.

We, as the Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital Emergency Medical Clinic wish a happy 22nd of March Emergency Medical Technicians Day to all our EMT’s and paramedics who strive to do the best and with an instinct to always do more.”
