Irregular bleedings may be a sign of Cervical Cancer
A 36 year old female patient who visited Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital with irregular vaginal bleeding and bleeding after intercourse, has been diagnosed with cervical cancer as a result of the performed tests. Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen stated that ‘We found a tumour approximately 1.5cm in the cervix of our 36 year old patient. Since the patient did not have any children yet, we decided to apply a fertility sparing surgery. Our patient was also suitable for this surgery. After sharing the possible risks with our patient, we performed the surgery with the patients consent. First we removed the tumour and the cervix and then by using the laparoscopic procedure the lymph nodes were removed.

Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen stated that after the surgical intervention, the pathological examination showed that the treatment of the cancer has been successfully completed.

Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen reported that the patient was discharged on the 3rd postoperative day and the patient had undergone surgery about 3 months ago and that no recurrence or complications were observed during the routine controls.

Prof. Dr. Müfit Yenen; “This treatment method which is very rare in the world is a first in our island”.
Prof. Dr. Müfit C. Yenen continued his statement by adding that: “Fertility sparing surgery is a suitable method for patients with cervical cancer who wish to have children in the future. It requires a thorough preparation phase.

We performed radical trachelectomy in combination with laparoscopic removal of lymph nodes. The patient still has the chance to have babies in the future.
This method has emerged in the 2000s and has made great progress over the last decade as well as becoming prominence all over the World. In Turkey, we know that this surgery is extremely rare. In our island, it is a method of treatment that has not been applied till now. However, this treatment method has performed for the first time in our country at Dr. Suat Günsel University of Kyrenia Hospital by our team with the cooperation of Asst. Assoc. Dr. Tijen Ataçağ.

After a short period of 6 months after the surgical procedure, our patient can get pregnant. We will keep on performing regular controls for the next 2 months and then we will safely transfer our patient to Prof. Dr. Namık Kemal Duru and his team at Near East IVF Center. It is necessary to wait about 4 to 6 months before planning pregnancy in patients who undergo this special surgery. Afterwards, we plan to help our patient to become pregnant in a short period of time by assisting reproductive techniques and perform the successful birth and help the patient accomplish her dreams of having a baby.
Cervical cancer is a type of cancer that is very common in the world and is now in the 4th place in women cancers. This type of cancer appears to be increasing rapidly in young women.

Approximately 40% of this disease occurs in the age range of 35-40 years, and the majority of patients have not yet fulfilled their wish to have children . Therefore, in this group of patients, performing fertility sparing surgery to help the patient to continue to reproduce has become more important in the recent years. This surgery can be performed for patients under appropriate conditions, and with our knowledge, experience and team support we will continue to perform this treatment.
